The Bible was written by many different people, known as disciples. They were God’s chosen followers. They wrote down God’s Word so people, centuries from them, would know God and understand his teachings. It has been said that the bible was written by over 40 different people over a 1400- 1800 time period.

First Written Word of God:
In 1400BC, the Bible states, the Ten Commandments were sent to Moses in the form of stone tablets from God. The Ten Commandments are the basic guidelines for Christians. God doesn’t that they can’t do any of those things; he just says that it’s a sin to do so. But as he states, many times throughout the bible, your sins are forgiven if you truly repent them.
Timeline:
500 BC – The Old Testament was completely finished in writing.
200 BC – The Apocrypha Books were completed and made into manuscripts.
1st Century AD – The 27 books of the New Testament were made into manuscript.
382 AD – All these books were combined into one book, called the Bible. The bible contains 80 books and was first written in only Latin.
1380 AD – The first English Bible was created by John Wycliffe.

English Bible:
The English Bible was first produced in the 1380’s by John Wycliffe. John was well known throughout England because he believed the teachings of the organized church were contrary to the bible. With help from his followers, Wycliffe produced dozens of English Language copies of the Bible translated from Latin. He and many others believed people should be able to read the bible in their own language. The Pope was infuriated with Wycliffe’s teachings, so 44 years after John Wycliffe’s death, the Pope ordered people to dig up his bones, crush them, and then scatter them in the river.
